SPATIAL QUERY LANGUAGES: EXTENDED SQL vs. VISUAL LANGUAGES vs. HYPERMAPS
نویسنده
چکیده
We compare the respective advantages and limitations of three different approaches for querying geographical data bases, namely extended SQL languages, visual languages and hypermaps. A sample database is defined, along with a typology of queries which is based on a minimal set of queries that a true geographic DBMS should be able to process. The principles of each of the three approaches are presented. Respective advantages and limitations are pointed out, based on the set of queries previously defined.

Extensible Location-Dependent Spatial Object that searches for spatial object on road networks. Here it provides Distance Indexing technique and providing a dynamic object mapping mechanism of spatial object search. It is very efficient and flexible for various types of queries, namely, range search and nearest neighbor search, on objects over large-scale networks. In spatial object search, a l...
متن کاملSPATIAL KNOWLEDGE EXTRACTION FROM GEOGRAPHICAL DATABASES An approach based on the Controlled English Query Language Geo-Q and Conceptual Graphs
Conceptualizing spatial relations through natural language seems to be closer to the model humans adopt for spatial reasoning. Controlled languages, which are subsets of natural ones, could be used in order to overcome the difficulties that emanate from the required experience in programming languages. In this paper, we propose a methodology in which questions are expressed in a new controlled ...

Deductive Database systems are designed based on a logical data model. Data (as opposed to Relational Databases Management System (RDBMS) in which data stored in tables) are saved as facts in a Deductive Database system. Datalog Educational System (DES) is a Deductive Database system that Datalog mode is the default mode in this system. It can extract data to use outer joins with three query la...
متن کاملObject-Oriented Standards: Can ODMG OQL be Extented to a Programming Language?
OQL is a query language proposed in the standard ODMG-93 as a tool for declarative access to object bases. We argue that bindings of OQL to universal programming languages (C++, Smalltalk, Java) must inevitably lead to the infamous impedance mismatch that was one of the major points of criticism of relational languages by the object-oriented school. This criticism to a big extent is not relevan...
متن کاملDevelopments in Spatio-Temporal Query Languages
Integrating spatio-temporal data as abstract data types into already existing data models is a promising approach to creating spatio-temporal query languages. In this context, an important new class of queries can be identified which is concerned with developments of spatial objects over time, that is, queries ask especially for changes in spatial relationships. Based on a definition of the not...
